W.I.P.s-Feb 09

I've been sketching pretty constantly since last night. I'm taking a break from painting for a bit, since I know I'll be doing a lot of it next week. I figured I might as well take some of my thumbnails up to the sketch stage. This will save time in-between projects next week, as I can work on more than one at a time, or simply grab a sketch once another project is completed. And no, your eyes are not tricking you. Those are children you see. I've got a bunch to do. The more I draw them, the easier they are- duh, I know. I'm working on some boy sketches at the moment. I'll be working through the weekend-as much as life allows me to-and hope to finish all of these by the end of next week. I'll post the finished pieces on my website (ugh-my next giant project)- I'll let you know.

And yes, that is the hippo and the hare on the far right. I know, I know. I just cannot leave those two alone! After some consideration last night I realized that the other piece is really static. I'm gong to take one more shot at them, and then I will be done. (I hope)

  1. Cool sketches, Dee! I really like your kids, I can't believe you just started drawing them! They're fantastic. It's funny, I got the opposite advice a few years ago. Several people told me to stop focusing on people, and start drawing animals! Strange how that works? I think it's good to know how to do it all, so I'm grateful.

  2. Thanks, Johanna. Once I let go of what I thought kids should look like, they came so much more easily to me!

Yes, and now you have mice, bunnies and raccoons on your resume! :) I do think it's a good idea to have a balance of animals and kids in a portfolio, and have been resisting the reality for a bit. Better late than never!

  3. Way to go Dee, these look fabulous. It never hurts to be able to show both in your portfolio -- it will keep your work interesting or being pigeon-holed into only being able to do one thing - unless that's what you want. Can't wait to see these finished. You are on fire!
