Illustration Friday-Multiple

Mother Hen thought to herself," After dozens of broods, it's this one chick that gives me multiple headaches a day!"

A closer look:
This illustration was done in acrylic paint. I'm still experimenting with my painting technique, and continue to play with dark under-painting and multiple layers of color. It's been a hard trip for me, coming to terms with the fact that my sketches and paintings look so different from each other. I've finally realized I have two different abilities, and am slowly embracing the development of each one on its own terms. (Oh, and I finally decided to get a dip pen to do the outlining of my pictures. My microns and other felt pens are oh so grateful!) If you were wondering what the sketch of this picture looks like, click here.

  1. Lovely idea and adorable chicks, especially the one with the worm. (Absolutely agree about the different media, I am trying to get to grips with adding paint to my sketches without spoiling them!)

That's one adorable and brave little chick. They're all cute, the way they are each busy doing something different.
It is hard trying different media, isn't it? I'd like to try acrylics and gouache, but haven't yet. This work has a lovely texture to it, and I think it's great you're trying different media.

  6. Cute chicks. I love how they each are doing something. (And I have a "chick" just like the one going over the fence!) Thanks for your comment.

  13. Hehehe! Brilliant! :D

*There's always 1 cheeky chick in a flock. They're always fun to watch, but not to live with 24/7.

I love your chickens. The mama is so adorably chubby and looks so worried about her lil chick, who is also adorable! Your stuff is fabulous!
