Illustration Friday: Trick or Treat

I feel like I'm full of excuses lately, but this is as far as I've been able to get with this week's entry. I've been working on the final touches for three paintings. This is the third scene I came up with for the Soup's Monthly Challenge.

(Head on over there and see what the other ladies came up with. I really like my initial ideas, but feel like the execution leaves much to be desired. I already plan on redoing my first two scenes. Enough of that! No fishing for sympathy....Hope you enjoy this piece.)

Hopefully it's pretty obvious it's the witch forcing Gretel to hold up a cookbook while her well-fed sibling's fate hangs in the balance so to speak. They were tricked by her treats. Evil woman!

  1. I like this sketch! That is one evil looking witch. And some nice details of her cottage around her.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize this was Hansel and Gretel until told, probably because they're bunnies and not the traditional Scandinavian children (I have a pretty conventional mind, I guess). Of course that wouldn't be a problem if the book were labeled "Hansel and Gretel." Just thought I'd share.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. Here's to more positive future dentistry experiences!!

I've got to admit, I didn't get the Hansel and Gretel link until I read it. Not that that is a bad thing. I think it's good sometimes to admire an illustration read about it then go back and see something you didn't see before.

I like that you've posted the sketch as well. I love seeing other people's sketches. And, thanks for the link to the Soup site and blog. There's some good stuff going on over there.
