I started sketching an idea I had for an SCBWI contest. It came to me very slowly...in fact too slowly. I still have the fantastic idea, part of which you can see to the left, but I'm trying new techniques, and that leaves no room for time. I could have rushed the piece, but I inevitably would have messed up and been ticked off about the whole thing. I ended up not submitting to the contest. Oh well, I can look forward to a great piece in my portfolio.
I decided that I would take one of the characters from my SCBWI piece and transfer them to a very simple illustration. I don't want to give myself permission to say "It's okay if you miss an I-Fri, no biggie." I'm practicing with deadlines, and if I can't handle I-Fri, I need to tighten the belt. (Although things like, my day job do occasionally interfere and that can't be helped!)
Here they are, two lady bears enjoying a tete-a-tea! I'm not very fond of it, but it gets the job done. You know, now that I'm looking at them...these girls remind me of gummy bears.
Very charming drawings, Dee.
ReplyDeleteSweet characters. I like your sketch for the scbwi contest, very charming. My piece for the contest is unfinished too, so I didn't submit eighter. Well.. maybe well make the next one.

My goodness..you sure know how to make a bear look civilized, and even approachable! I'd have tea with these ladies! I love the light and cheerful colors you used, and the great faces and gestures. I know what you mkean about IF - I have made a promise to myself to do it every week - sometimes it's the only art I can fit in with my "real life" work schedule, so I don't want to let it go. This is great!
ReplyDeleteLovely!! I especially like their hats, and the colouring is excellent!
ReplyDeletefun stuff, dee!
ReplyDeletelove the concept sketch. i also love your finished submission - those - the expressions on their faces perfectly depict how girlfriends laugh when they get together.
