Bird Brain

I just wanted to share a peek at the beginning stages of a new piece. I noticed something while I was sketching him, and I think I've noticed it before but kind of brushed it aside. When I work from reference, and am hashing out a character, they have a different appearance than characters that come from my head. Less cartoony or something. Maybe I'm imagining it, but I think I'll have to take a closer look at past animal reference sketches to be sure.

Regardless, I look forward to figuring out this goose and his compatriots. It won't be easy, but there's nothing like a little art challenge to get the blood pumpin', right?
