Motherhood

Leeza wrote a post on the Soup Blog recently recognizing how much growth she's undergone in the last year. I've experienced some growth, but never has that been so obvious as today when I chose to redo a favorite piece from my portfolio.

Here's the piece I completed last spring using acrylics and a fine tipped felt pen for the line work. Here's today's piece, using guoache and the loose brush techniques I've been playing around with.
(If you click on the image, you can see the details much better.)
I'm definitely a fan of the second piece. The colors are much brighter and there is an energy that seems more repressed in the orginal piece. (Although I noticed I left out shadows, so I'll go back and add those.) I have plans to do one or two more pieces with this little family, so keep an eye out.

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there. I have to say this piece was inspired by my thrill-seeking toddler. I'm sure some of you can relate!
