After a Downpour

April's Shower

Okay, here's the illustration I've been sweating over for the last three weeks. It's the latest and final version. I finally gave up on trying to paint this, and decided to return to my old friends: marker and pen. (They've never failed me!)
The deadline for this contest isn't until Friday, but I wanted to finish it up, so I could devote my time to making a fantabulous I-Fri entry. Let me know what you think!

i love the knobby roots of the trees, the interested bird, the bare feet, the exploration & curiosity of the little boy. this is very precious and looks solid & finished.

  2. Thanks Beth! It's good to get some feedback. You were right about finishing it just to finish it. I'm going to try and improve each time. Plus, one of my goals this year it so enter at least three contests. One down, two to go!

    maeflower,

i have the same goal to do at least 3 contests in 2005. i just did my first one of the year last month... and did not win. :(

i still really like it though, and feel that it is reflective of my style, so i added it to my portfolio.

i almost gave up, but then i'd always wonder "what if?". now i know. and i learned so much while creating it and now i have another piece of finished art that i'm proud of to add to my portfolio.

no more half-done art for me. i had too much of that and it was depressing seeing this sort of "idea graveyard" of unfinished work.

art is not about perfection or winning, it is about the personal satisfaction that you get, and how can you have that when you never finish anything?

just keep trying. keep pushing through. i'll be around watching to make sure of that! ;)

  5. This is so cute and I love the way you did the trees leaning giving the picture movement.
